For projects that don’t fit neatly into one category — a renovation that touches every room, a property restoration after long deferred maintenance, a multi-phase project that needs to be planned and coordinated — what you need isn’t a specialist. You need a builder who runs the whole job.
Custom Crafted Homes has been Cape Cod’s general contractor since 1974. We handle permits, vendors, scheduling, craftsmanship, and accountability — all from one team, with one phone number to call when something needs to happen. We do this work in Dennis, Yarmouth, Chatham, and across the Cape.
What general contracting means here
A general contractor is the person responsible for the whole project. We:
- Run the permitting through town offices (Dennis, Yarmouth, Chatham, Brewster — every Cape town has its own quirks)
- Coordinate trades — framers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, roofers, masons, landscapers
- Schedule the work so trades don’t block each other
- Manage the budget transparently, with line items and no surprises
- Stand behind the craftsmanship — our crew does the framing, finish, and most of the carpentry
- Handle inspections, code compliance, conservation reviews, septic upgrades when needed
- Answer the phone
If you’ve ever managed a project yourself — chasing the electrician for a missed appointment, calling the plumber back because the inspector failed something, finding out the cabinets are six weeks behind — you know why having one accountable team matters.
What kinds of projects we GC
- Whole-home renovations that touch multiple systems and rooms
- Property restorations — homes that have been let go for years and need full attention
- Multi-phase projects — kitchen this year, primary suite next year, addition the year after
- Renovations during the season — coordinating with a tenant or family in residence
- Estate properties — large homes with multiple buildings (main house, guest house, garage, dock)
- Commercial-light projects — small offices, retail spaces, mixed-use Cape buildings
If your project leans toward ground-up new construction, see our custom homes page; if it’s primarily an expansion, start with home additions.
Why families pick us as GC
- One accountable team. Same crew, same project manager, from start to finish.
- In-house craftsmanship. Most GCs subcontract everything; we do our own framing, finish carpentry, and project management.
- Permits and town offices. Fifty years of relationships with Cape Cod building inspectors and conservation commissions means our paperwork moves.
- Trades we trust. When we do subcontract — electrical, plumbing, masonry — it’s to specialists we’ve worked with for years.
- Transparent budget. Line-item estimates, no padding, no surprise change orders for things we should have caught.
- Insurance and license. Fully licensed, MA Construction Supervisor License, full builder’s insurance, workers comp — all current.
How we typically engage
- Discovery conversation — what’s the project, what’s your timeline, what’s your budget range
- Site visit — usually 1-2 hours, often with your architect if you have one
- Scope of work — written description of every piece of the project
- Estimate — line-item, transparent, fair
- Contract — milestones, payment schedule, schedule of work
- Build — weekly site walks, photo updates, dedicated project lead
- Punch list and walk-through
- Ongoing relationship — we stay reachable for years afterward
What we won’t take on
- Projects where the budget is unrealistic for the scope — we’ll tell you up front
- Projects where the homeowner wants to direct trades themselves around us
- Projects with materials we don’t trust (we’ll suggest alternatives, but we won’t install junk)
