- Three coastlines — Cape Cod Bay (Rock Harbor side), Pleasant Bay (south), and the Atlantic-facing Nauset estuary. Each one has its own wind, salt, and conservation considerations.
- Conservation Commission — very active. Most shoreline projects involve filings for wetlands, coastal bank, or floodplain review.
- Orleans Board of Health and water-quality program — like neighboring towns, Orleans has strict septic and water-quality requirements. Substantial renovations often trigger septic upgrades.
- Outer Cape construction logistics — material deliveries take longer here than in mid-Cape; we plan for it.
