How we got here
Custom Crafted Homes was started by a small Cape Cod family team in 1974, originally as a small framing crew working on new builds across the mid-Cape. Over the following decades, the business grew into a full-service builder — custom homes, renovations, additions, and ongoing property care for hundreds of families.
Today, Jeff Baroni runs the business. Many of our framers, finish carpenters, and project leads have been with us for 15-20 years or more. When you work with Custom Crafted, you work with the same crew the whole way through — not a rotating cast of subcontractors.
What we believe
A few things have stayed the same since 1974, and they shape how we work:
Craftsmanship is the point
We don’t take on jobs we can’t do well. We don’t subcontract the work we’re known for. When you hire us, the framers framing your house are our framers. The finish carpenters trimming your kitchen are our finish carpenters. The project lead walking the job every week is our project lead. Accountability lives with the people on site.
Local matters
We build for the place we live in. Salt air, coastal weather, Cape Cod’s specific code and conservation requirements — these aren’t details we research as needed. They’re things we’ve worked with every day for fifty years. We know which window manufacturers’ warranties actually hold up on the Cape. We know which shingle profiles match the historic vernacular without looking forced. We know how a kettle pond lot drains differently from an inland sandy lot.
Honesty in the estimate
Every estimate we send is a line-item breakdown of real costs. We don’t pad numbers to leave room for “change orders” we’re already planning. If we open a wall and find something unexpected — soft framing, an outdated electrical system, a surprise from a previous renovation — we stop, document it, give you options, and wait for your call. Nothing happens without you knowing.
The relationship doesn’t end at the final walkthrough
Most of our clients call us back ten years later for the next project. Some call us back twenty years later for their next house. We’re easier to reach in year three than most builders are in week three. That’s by design. Read more about that on our process page.
The team
Jeff Baroni — Owner Jeff leads the company day to day — from the first site visit through the final walkthrough. With decades on Cape Cod job sites, he’s known for hands-on management, an honest estimate, and refusing to leave a project until the homeowner is happy. Many of our clients work directly with Jeff from estimate to handover.
