Yarmouth sits directly west of our home base in Dennis. Five to ten minutes from our shop, depending on which village you’re in. We’ve been working in Yarmouth for as long as we’ve been in Dennis — half a century of building, renovating, and maintaining homes across Yarmouth Port, South Yarmouth, and West Yarmouth.
Three villages, three very different conversations
Yarmouth is officially three distinct villages, and the homes themselves tell you which one you’re in:
- Yarmouth Port (the north side, Cape Cod Bay) — historic. The Captain’s Mile on 6A is one of New England’s best collections of 1700s-1800s sea captain homes. Renovation work here has aesthetic and permit considerations most builders aren’t ready for.
- South Yarmouth — denser, more year-round, mix of mid-century cottages and newer infill construction. Bass River side has older lots with mature trees.
- West Yarmouth — Nantucket Sound side. Englewood, Lewis Bay. More seasonal homes, lots of full-gut work on cottages that families have kept for decades.
When a homeowner calls us about a Yarmouth project, the first question we ask is which village — because the answer drives almost every decision after that.
What we do most in Yarmouth
- Whole-home renovations of historic 6A homes in Yarmouth Port — preserving the character while bringing the systems current
- Kitchen and bathroom remodels — our most common Yarmouth call
- Additions to original Capes and ranches — primary suites, screened porches, mudrooms
- Custom homes on tear-down lots in South and West Yarmouth
Yarmouth-specific things to know
- Historic district overlays in Yarmouth Port — much of the 6A corridor falls under historic review. Exterior changes (windows, siding, roof material, even paint color in some cases) need approval. We have a long working relationship with the Yarmouth Old King’s Highway Historic District Committee.
- Conservation and coastal review — homes near Bass River, Mill Pond, or Lewis Bay often involve wetlands and floodplain review.
- Older septic systems — particularly in South Yarmouth, a lot of properties still have Title 5 issues that need addressing before a renovation can be permitted.
