Custom Crafted Homes has been based in Dennis since 1974. Our shop is at 667 Main Street in Dennis. Drive any street between East Dennis and Dennis Port and you’ll probably pass a home we built, renovated, or maintain. Family-owned since 1974 — second-generation builders, third-generation Cape Cod.
The five villages — different homes, different priorities
Dennis is actually five distinct villages, and the work changes depending on where you are:
- Dennis (the original village, north side, on Cape Cod Bay) — historic homes, a lot of original construction we’re working into renovations. Strict aesthetic expectations.
- East Dennis — Sesuit Harbor side, mix of older Capes and newer waterfront builds. Sesuit Neck has some of our favorite custom-home work.
- South Dennis — Mix of year-round residences and seasonal homes. Bass River bridge area.
- West Dennis — Nantucket Sound side. Englewood Beach, West Dennis Beach. More cottages, lots of full-renos of older seasonal homes.
- Dennis Port — the busiest village, denser, lots of seasonal rentals and increasingly year-round conversions.
A renovation in historic Dennis village comes with different aesthetic and permit considerations than a new build off Old Bass River Road in West Dennis. We’ve worked in every one of these villages enough times that we know what to expect — what the building department will push back on, which lots have wetland setbacks, where the older septic systems will need to be replaced.

Permits and conservation in Dennis
Dennis has its own building department, conservation commission, and board of health — and like every Cape town, they each have their preferences. We’ve been pulling Dennis permits for 50 years; the process moves smoother because of relationships, not shortcuts. Coastal lots in Dennis often involve the Conservation Commission for wetlands review (especially anywhere near Sesuit Harbor, Bass River, or the bayside marshes), and many older lots require septic upgrades through the Board of Health before a substantial addition can be approved. We handle all of this.
