Custom Crafted Homes project photo IMG_9615

Most painters spray cheap paint over inadequate prep and disappear. The Cape’s salt air does the rest — peeling within two seasons, fading within three.

We paint the way we build: with proper prep, the right coatings for the climate, and a finish that holds up. Custom Crafted Homes has been a Cape Cod painting contractor for over 50 years — the same crew that finishes our custom homes and renovations also handles standalone exterior and interior painting projects across Dennis, Yarmouth, Chatham, and the rest of the Cape.

What we paint

  • Exterior siding, trim, and shingles — including cedar shingle staining and weathered re-coats
  • Interior — full house, single rooms, or specific surfaces
  • Cabinet refinishing — kitchen, bath, built-ins
  • Trim and millwork — crown, baseboard, casing, panel doors
  • Decks, porches, fences — stains and exterior finishes that handle Cape Cod weather
  • Color consultation — we’ll help you pick, or work with your designer

Why our exterior paint actually lasts

Salt air and UV are brutal on coatings. The difference between paint that lasts 3 years and paint that lasts 12 isn’t usually the paint brand — it’s the prep. On every exterior project we do:

  • Power wash to remove salt, mildew, dust, and chalking
  • Hand-scrape failed areas down to sound substrate
  • Spot-prime with the right primer for the substrate
  • Caulk and patch every gap, crack, and nail head
  • Two finish coats of a coastal-rated paint (we use coatings rated for marine and seacoast use)
  • Brush and roll for the finish — never airless-sprayed-only on a Cape home, because spray-only without back-brushing doesn’t seat the paint into cedar’s grain

This is also why our painting jobs take longer than the rock-bottom bids you might be getting. The prep is most of the work.

Interior painting — done clean

Inside, we treat your house like a finished home — because for most of our painting projects, it already is. That means:

  • Drop cloths everywhere the day starts, picked up the day ends
  • Furniture moved and protected, never just shoved aside
  • Walls washed and patched before paint, not just brushed over dust
  • Two coats on every wall, not one with prayer for coverage
  • Trim brushed, not sprayed for clean lines without overspray on adjacent surfaces

Painting often comes up alongside a kitchen remodel or as part of a bigger general contracting project, since fresh trim and walls are usually the last step before move-back-in.

When painting is the right call (and when it isn’t)

Sometimes you don’t need a paint job — you need siding replaced, trim re-built, or windows fixed. We’ll tell you straight. If half your trim is rotted and the paint is the only thing holding it together, we’ll talk about whether painting alone is a waste of your money.

Process

  1. Site visit and color consultation — we look at conditions, talk about colors and finishes
  2. Detailed estimate — exact scope, exact materials, exact timeline
  3. Prep day(s) — the unglamorous work that makes the finish last
  4. Paint — typically 1 day per room interior; 1-2 weeks for a full exterior
  5. Walk-through — we don’t leave until you’re happy
